Scottish Referendum

The date was 18 September 2014 and Edinburgh was in a festive mood. Bars and restaurants were packed and every hotel booked solid by TV news crews. A global media circus had come to town for the referendum and every polling station was besieged by reporters.

At the time it seemed Scotland was finally going its own way - but the appearance proved deceptive. In line with most of the country, Edinburgh narrowly voted no. Two years later came Brexit. Scotland voted against - England voted for. And Scottish independence gained a new lease of life.
